BREAKING NEWS...Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak named Omar Suleiman Vice President Saturday.
Suleiman is the first vice president of Egypt since Mubarak gained power in 1981. This move by Mubarak is a clear step in grooming a successor, which is in response to the thousands upon thousands of anti-government protesters causing havoc in Egypt. Mubarak hopes the appointment of Suleiman will help regain order.
Suleiman has been working behind the scenes in the Egyptian government for nearly two decades as a the nation's powerful intelligence chief. He is well respected by the Egyptian military and is credited for defeating the Islamic insurgency in the 1990's. After the defeat, western intelligence leaders relied on him for information about the regions terrorist groups.
The question still remains, who will succeed Hosni Mubarak as President of Egypt, his son, Omar Suleiman or someone else?
