Congresswoman Giffords In Stable Condition

NEWS FROM TUCSON, ARIZONA...Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona remains in critical, but stable condition two days after being shot in the head during an assassination attempt.
Doctors from Tucson University Medical Center have seen many encouraging signs Sunday and Monday.  Rep. Giffords has given the thumbs up sign and has grabbed for her breathing tube while sedated.  Dr. Peter Rhee said that grabbing for her breathing tube is a "purposeful movement" and a "great thing".
The doctors said that her brain remains swollen, but the pressure isn't increasing which is a good sign in the her recovery.  Doctors also said that the path of the bullet stayed on one side of her brain not hitting the "eloquent areas" in the brain's center where a wound would have been fatal.
As Rep. Giffords recovers in the hospital, her alleged assassin Jared Lee Loughner, 22, will appear in court Monday afternoon for the first time.
Loughner is the accused of opening fire at a rally hosted by Griffords outside a Tucson supermarket. After the bullets stopped six people were killed, including a federal judge and a nine year old girl, and 14 were wounded.  Including Griffords, eight still remain hospitalized at Tucson University Medical Center.
President Obama led the nation today, at 11:00 a.m., in a moment of silence to honor the victims of the Arizona shooting.

  3. It is terrible what has happened and no one has the right in such a way that takes away someone's life.

  4. It's a good news. But still, I can't forget that a 9-year old girl is dead in that horrible tragedy.
I hope Gifford could recover soon and the damage won't be too serious.
