Mitch Miller Dies at 99

News is spreading of the death of Mitch Miller at the ripe age of 99.  Miller, the goateed orchestra leader, hosted the popular "Sing Along with Mitch" in the early 1960's on NBC.    The show featured performances of wholesome family songs with on-screen lyrics so those watching could join in the sing along.

In addition to his family music television show and his own recording, Miller produced hits for Patti Page, and Tony Bennett to name a few.  As a major record executive with Columbia Records he made hits with Page, Bennett, Rosemary Clooney and Johnny Mathis in the pre-rock and roll era.

Margaret Miller Reuther, his daughter, broke the news Monday that Miller died Saturday in Lenox Hill Hospital after a short illness.
