Elizabeth Edwards Dies

BREAKING NEWS...Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of former Senator John Edwards, has died at the age of 61 after a six year battle with cancer.
She died Tuesday morning at her Chapel Hill, North Carolina home surrounded by family, friends and her estranged husband, John.
"Today we have lost the comfort of Elizabeth's presence but, she remains the heart of this family," the family said in a statement. "We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life."
Elizabeth Edwards was first diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 2004 on the last day of her husband's vice presidential campaign.  John Edwards was Senator John Kerry's running mate in the 2004 election.
The news of her death comes one day after the Edwards family released a statement saying that future cancer treatment would be unproductive.
Elizabeth Edwards died of liver failure due to her cancer and the news of her death wasn't made public until after her youngest children were home from school.
