Giffords Transferred To Houston

BREAKING NEWS...Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has been released from the Tuscon, Arizona hospital that has been treating her since the January 9 shooting.
Rep. Giffords has been taken by a police escorted ambulance to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base where she boarded a plane for Houston to continue her rehab.
Instead of heading directly to a rehabilitation facility, she will go to Memorial Hermann Hospital's trauma center for further treatment and evaluation.  Dr. Dong Kim, a neurosurgeon, said, ""She's not quite ready for rehabilitation yet."  The hospital said she will be transferred to the rehab facility, TIRR Memorial Hermann, when her health allows.
On Thursday, Rep. Giffords was taken outside for the first time since the shooting to get some fresh air, sunshine and do her rehab.  In addition to going outside, she is able to stand with assistance, but not walk or take steps.
Giffords' husband, US Navy Captain Mark Kelly, described his wife's progress as "remarkable" and hopes she will make a full recovery.  He said that she's a fighter like nobody else that he knows.

  6. I wish Ms.Gifford well, her husband and family for a complete recovery. I think too, as a mental health advocate there should be meaningful reforms so that everybody with a mental illness can get the treatment they need. So no more such incidents will occur. BTW people with mental illness with the right treatment are peaceful, law abiding people. Please don't let this incident add to the stigma of mental illness.
